Atazanavir/cobicistat
Atazanavir/cobicistat (pronunciation: a-ta-za-na-vir/ko-bi-cis-tat) is a combination medication used in the treatment of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus).
Etymology
The name "Atazanavir" is derived from the components of the drug: azan (a class of compounds) and vir (short for virus). "Cobicistat" is a pharmacokinetic enhancer that increases the effectiveness of atazanavir.
Usage
Atazanavir/cobicistat is used to control HIV infection. It helps to decrease the amount of HIV in your body so your immune system can work better. This lowers your chance of getting HIV complications (such as new infections, cancer) and improves your quality of life. Atazanavir belongs to a class of drugs known as protease inhibitors. Cobicistat belongs to a class of drugs known as pharmacokinetic enhancers.
