Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Deutschland
The Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Deutschland (ASB) is a German non-profit relief and welfare organization. It is one of the largest aid organizations in Germany, providing a wide range of services in the fields of emergency medical services, social welfare, and humanitarian aid.
History[edit]
The Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund was founded in 1888 in Berlin by six carpenters who wanted to improve the first aid skills of workers. The organization quickly grew and expanded its services to include a variety of social and medical services. Over the years, the ASB has played a significant role in providing emergency medical services and disaster relief in Germany and abroad.
Structure and Organization[edit]
The ASB is organized as a federation of regional associations, each of which operates independently but under the umbrella of the national organization. The national headquarters is located in Cologne, Germany. The ASB is a member of the Samaritan International, a network of Samaritan organizations across Europe.
Services[edit]
The ASB provides a wide range of services, including:
- Emergency Medical Services: The ASB operates ambulance services and provides first aid training to the public.
- Social Services: This includes care for the elderly, assistance for people with disabilities, and support for children and families.
- Disaster Relief: The ASB is involved in both national and international disaster relief efforts, providing aid and support to affected communities.
- Humanitarian Aid: The organization participates in various humanitarian projects around the world, focusing on health care, education, and infrastructure development.
Membership and Volunteering[edit]
The ASB relies heavily on the support of its members and volunteers. Membership is open to anyone who supports the goals of the organization. Volunteers play a crucial role in delivering services and responding to emergencies.
Funding[edit]
The ASB is funded through a combination of membership fees, donations, and government grants. It also receives funding from the European Union for specific projects.
