Andhra Medical College (pronunciation: /ˈændrə ˈmɛdɪkəl ˈkɒlɪdʒ/) is a premier medical institution located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. It was established in the year 1923 and is one of the oldest medical colleges in India.
Etymology
The name "Andhra Medical College" is derived from the region of its establishment, Andhra Pradesh, and its primary function as a Medical College.
History
Andhra Medical College was established in 1923 by Dr. N. S. Patwardhan, the then Surgeon General of the Madras Presidency. It was the first medical college in Andhra Pradesh and the eighth in India. The college was initially affiliated with the Madras University and later with the Andhra University in 1938.
Courses
Andhra Medical College offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral courses in various fields of medicine. The undergraduate course is Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), and the postgraduate courses include Doctor of Medicine (MD), Master of Surgery (MS), and Diploma courses in various specialties. The college also offers super specialty courses like Doctorate of Medicine (DM) and Master of Chirurgiae (MCh).
Affiliations
Andhra Medical College is affiliated with the NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada, and recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

Many notable personalities in the field of medicine have graduated from Andhra Medical College. These include Dr. C. Uma Maheswara Rao, a renowned neurosurgeon, and Dr. B. Soma Raju, a famous cardiologist.
