Anaesthesia (journal)

Anaesthesia (pronounced: /ˌænɪsˈθiːziə/) is a peer-reviewed medical journal that covers the field of anaesthesiology. It is published by the Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of the Association of Anaesthetists.

Etymology

The term "Anaesthesia" is derived from the Greek words "an-", meaning "without", and "aesthesis", meaning "sensation". In the context of this journal, it refers to the medical practice of administering medications either by injection or inhalation (anaesthetics) that block the feeling of pain and other sensations, or that produce a deep state of unconsciousness that eliminates all sensations, which allows medical and surgical procedures to be undertaken without causing undue distress or discomfort.

History

The journal Anaesthesia was first published in 1946. It is the official journal of the Association of Anaesthetists, which was founded in 1932. The journal publishes articles on all aspects of anaesthesia, critical care and pain management, including research work, clinical papers, and reviews.
