Early Life and Education
Ana Janer was born in Girona, a city in the northeastern region of Catalonia, Spain. She was the daughter of a local physician, which sparked her interest in medicine from a young age. Despite the societal norms of the time, Janer was determined to pursue a career in medicine. She moved to Barcelona to study at the University of Barcelona, one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Spain.
Career
After graduating from the University of Barcelona in 1845, Janer returned to Girona where she began her medical practice. She specialized in obstetrics and gynecology, fields that were largely dominated by male physicians at the time. Despite facing discrimination and prejudice, Janer was dedicated to providing medical care to women and children in her community.
In addition to her medical practice, Janer was also an advocate for women's rights. She was a member of the Feminist Movement in Spain, and used her platform as a physician to promote gender equality in the medical field.

Ana Janer's pioneering work in medicine and her advocacy for women's rights have left a lasting impact on the medical field in Spain. Today, she is remembered as one of the first women to practice medicine in the country, and her contributions to obstetrics and gynecology continue to be recognized.
