Ambev (short for Companhia de Bebidas das Américas) is a Brazilian brewing company. It is the largest brewing company in Latin America and one of the largest in the world. Ambev was formed in 1999 through the merger of two of Brazil's largest brewers, Brahma and Antarctica.

History

Ambev was created in 1999 with the merger of Brahma and Antarctica, two of Brazil's most prominent breweries. The merger was aimed at consolidating the Brazilian beer market and expanding the companies' reach internationally. In 2004, Ambev merged with Interbrew from Belgium, forming InBev. Later, InBev merged with Anheuser-Busch to create Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world's largest brewer.
