Aletta Jacobs (pronounced: Ah-let-tah Yaa-kobs) was a prominent Dutch physician and women's rights activist. She was born on February 9, 1854, and died on August 10, 1929.
Etymology
The name Aletta is of German origin and means "noble". Jacobs is a patronymic surname of Hebrew origin, meaning "son of Jacob".
Biography
Aletta Jacobs was the first woman to complete a university degree in the Netherlands, and went on to become the country's first female physician. She was a leading figure in the international women's suffrage movement and made significant contributions to public health and birth control advocacy.
