Adventist HealthCare (pronounced: ad-ven-tist hehlth-kehr) is a faith-based, not-for-profit organization headquartered in Gaithersburg, Maryland, United States. It is part of the Seventh-day Adventist Church's worldwide healthcare ministry.

Etymology

The term "Adventist" is derived from the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which is the religious organization that founded Adventist HealthCare. The word "Adventist" comes from the church's belief in the second advent, or second coming, of Jesus Christ. "HealthCare" refers to the organization's mission to provide comprehensive health care services.

History

Adventist HealthCare was established in 1907 by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. It was originally known as the Washington Sanitarium and later became the Washington Adventist Hospital. Today, Adventist HealthCare includes hospitals, home health agencies, nursing centers, and other health care services.
