Addenbrooke's Hospital
Addenbrooke's Hospital
Addenbrooke's Hospital (pronunciation: /ˈædənbrʊks/) is a renowned teaching hospital located in Cambridge, England. It is associated with the University of Cambridge and is part of the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Etymology
The hospital is named after Dr. John Addenbrooke, a distinguished physician and fellow of St. Catharine's College, Cambridge. In his will, he left £4,500 to establish a hospital for the poor residents of Cambridge, which led to the foundation of Addenbrooke's Hospital in 1766.
History
Addenbrooke's Hospital was initially located on Trumpington Street in central Cambridge. However, due to the increasing demand for healthcare services, the hospital was relocated to its current site on Hills Road in 1976. The new site allowed for the expansion of the hospital's facilities and services, including the addition of a specialist neuroscience center and a transplant unit.
Services
Addenbrooke's Hospital offers a wide range of medical services, including emergency medicine, surgery, paediatrics, and maternity care. It is also a leading center for specialist treatments, such as organ transplantation, cancer treatment, and neuroscience.
