Adaptive Management

Adaptive management (pronunciation: /əˈdæptɪv ˈmænɪdʒmənt/) is a systematic process for continually improving management policies and practices by learning from the outcomes of operational programs. It involves the application of scientific principles and methods to improve the effectiveness of management decisions.

Etymology

The term "adaptive management" was first used in the context of natural resource management, and it has its roots in the work of C.S. Holling, a Canadian ecologist. The concept is based on the recognition that many natural systems are complex and unpredictable, and that management actions often have unexpected results.
