An acupuncture point (pronunciation: /ˈækjʊˌpʌŋktʃər pɔɪnt/) is a specific location on the body that is targeted in acupuncture and acupressure for therapeutic effects.
Etymology
The term "acupuncture point" is derived from the Latin words "acus" meaning "needle", and "punctura" meaning "to puncture".
Description
Acupuncture points are believed to be locations where the Qi (pronounced "chee"), or life energy, is concentrated and can be manipulated. These points are typically found along the meridians or energy pathways of the body.
