Abruzzo is a region in central Italy, bordered by the Adriatic Sea to the east, the region of Marche to the north, Lazio to the west and southwest, and Molise to the southeast. Geography[edit]
Abruzzo is characterized by its mountainous terrain, with the Gran Sasso d'Italia being the highest peak in the Apennines. The region is divided into four provinces: L'Aquila, Teramo, Pescara, and Chieti. The Corno Grande, part of the Gran Sasso massif, is a notable feature of the region's geography.

During the Roman era, Abruzzo was an important region, with significant settlements such as Amiternum.
