ACEP

The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) is a professional organization of emergency medicine physicians in the United States. Founded in 1968, ACEP represents more than 38,000 emergency physicians, emergency medicine residents and medical students. ACEP promotes the highest quality of emergency care and is the leading advocate for emergency physicians, their patients, and the public.

History

ACEP was founded in 1968 by a group of physicians who shared a commitment to improving the quality of emergency medicine. Today, ACEP represents more than 38,000 emergency physicians, emergency medicine residents and medical students. ACEP is headquartered in Irving, Texas.

Mission

ACEP's mission is to promote the highest quality of emergency care and it is the leading advocate for emergency physicians, their patients, and the public. The organization continually strives to improve the quality of emergency medical services through:

  • Continuing education and research
  • Public education
  • Representation of emergency medicine in the professional arena
  • Development of professional and practice standards

Membership

Membership in ACEP is open to physicians who have demonstrated commitment to emergency medicine, have met specified educational requirements, and who adhere to the ACEP's high standards of professional conduct.

Advocacy

ACEP advocates for emergency physicians and their patients on a wide range of issues, including medical liability reform, emergency medical services, public health and safety, and health care reform.

Education

ACEP provides a wide range of educational resources for emergency physicians, including continuing medical education courses, textbooks, and online resources.

Research

ACEP promotes research in emergency medicine to advance the science of emergency care, and to improve patient care.
