A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (1 September 1896 – 14 November 1977), born Abhay Charan De, was an Indian spiritual teacher and the founder-acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), commonly known as the Hare Krishna movement. Prabhupada is regarded by his followers as a Guru and spiritual master who has opened the doors of the ancient Vedic spirituality to the modern world.

Early Life

Abhay Charan De was born in Kolkata, India, in a Bengali Hindu family. From a young age, he showed an interest in the teachings of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and the Vedic scriptures.
