Neurotrophin-4
Neurotrophin-4 (NT-4) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the NTF4 gene. It is one of the neurotrophins, a family of proteins that induce the survival, development, and function of neurons.
Function[edit]
NT-4 is a neurotrophic factor that signals predominantly through the TrkB receptor tyrosine kinase. It is known to promote the survival and differentiation of mammalian neurons, and may play a role in the injury response in the nervous system.
Clinical significance[edit]
Mutations in this gene have been associated with glaucoma 1O (GLC1O), a form of primary open angle glaucoma.
