Johnson & Wales University (JWU) is a private university with its main campus in Providence, Rhode Island. Johnson & Wales University was established in 1914 by Gertrude I. Johnson and Mary T. Wales. The founders were pioneers in business education for women, and they aimed to provide practical, career-focused education. The school initially offered secretarial and business courses.
In the 1960s, JWU began to expand its curriculum to include hospitality and culinary arts programs, which have since become some of the university's most renowned offerings.
