Clement Price Thomas (22 November 1893 – 19 March 1973) was a pioneering Welsh surgeon renowned for his contributions to the field of cardiothoracic surgery. He is best known for performing the first successful operation to remove a pulmonary embolism and for his role in the development of open-heart surgery.

Early life and education[edit]

Clement Price Thomas was born in Taff's Well, Wales, and was educated at Cowan House School in Weston-super-Mare and Llandovery College. He went on to study medicine at the University of London, where he excelled academically and developed a keen interest in surgery.

World War I[edit]

During World War I, Price Thomas served in the Royal Army Medical Corps, where he gained valuable experience in trauma surgery. This experience would later influence his approach to surgical innovation and patient care.
