Sir Henry Northcote, 4th Baronet
British baronet and politician
Sir Henry Northcote, 4th Baronet[edit]
Sir Henry Northcote, 4th Baronet (1655 – 4 October 1730) was a prominent English baronet and politician. He was a member of the Northcote baronets, a title in the Baronetage of England.
Early Life[edit]
Sir Henry Northcote was born in 1655, the eldest son of Sir Arthur Northcote, 2nd Baronet, and his wife Elizabeth Godolphin. The Northcote family was well-established in Devon, with their ancestral seat at Tawstock Court.
Career[edit]
Sir Henry succeeded to the baronetcy in 1676 upon the death of his elder brother, Sir Arthur Northcote, 3rd Baronet. As a baronet, he was involved in local governance and politics. He served as a Member of Parliament for Exeter from 1689 to 1690 and again from 1695 to 1700. During his tenure, he was known for his support of the Whig policies.
Family[edit]
Sir Henry married Penelope Lovett, daughter of Sir Robert Lovett of Liscombe, Buckinghamshire. The marriage brought connections to other influential families and further solidified the Northcote family's status. They had several children, including his successor, Sir Henry Northcote, 5th Baronet.
Legacy[edit]
Sir Henry Northcote's contributions to his community and his role in the political landscape of his time were significant. His leadership and influence extended beyond his immediate family, impacting the broader region of Devon. The Northcote family continued to play a vital role in British politics and society, with descendants who would later become Earls of Iddesleigh.
Heraldry[edit]

The Northcote family coat of arms is described as "Argent, three crosses crosslet in bend sable." This heraldic symbol represents the family's long-standing history and noble status.
