United Airlines is a major American airline headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. It is one of the largest airlines in the world, operating a comprehensive domestic and international route network. United is a founding member of the Star Alliance, the world's largest airline alliance.

History[edit]

United Airlines was founded in 1926 as Varney Air Lines and was later known as Boeing Air Transport. It became United Air Lines in 1931 following a merger of several airlines. Over the decades, United expanded its operations and became a key player in the aviation industry.
