The college is known for its strong emphasis on undergraduate education and its commitment to the liberal arts.
History[edit]
Williams College was established with funds bequeathed by Colonel Ephraim Williams, a soldier and benefactor, who left his estate to support the establishment of a "free school" in the town of West Hoosac, which was later renamed Williamstown in his honor. The college officially opened on October 26, 1793.
Academics[edit]
Williams College offers a wide range of academic programs and is renowned for its tutorial system, which is modeled after the University of Oxford and University of Cambridge systems. The college offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in 25 different majors, and students have the opportunity to design their own interdisciplinary studies.

The campus features a mix of historic and modern architecture, with notable buildings such as Chapin Hall, Griffin Hall, and the Thompson Memorial Chapel.
