List of Norwegian Dishes

Norwegian cuisine, part of Scandinavian cuisine, is known for its unique dishes made from local ingredients. This article provides a list of traditional and popular Norwegian dishes.

Traditional Dishes[edit]

Rakfisk - Rakfisk is a traditional Norwegian dish made from fermented fish, typically trout. It is often served with flatbread and sour cream.

Lutefisk - Lutefisk is a traditional dish of the Nordic countries made from aged stockfish or dried/salted whitefish and lye. It is gelatinous in texture and is often served during Christmas.

Klippfisk - Klippfisk is a type of dried and salted cod. It is a staple in many Norwegian dishes, including the popular dish Bacalao.

Fårikål - Fårikål is a traditional Norwegian dish consisting of mutton with bone, cabbage, whole black pepper and often a little wheat flour. It's traditionally served with potatoes boiled in their jackets.

Kjøttkaker - Kjøttkaker are large, round meatballs, usually served with gravy, potatoes, and lingonberry sauce.

Krumkake - Krumkake is a Norwegian waffle cookie made of flour, butter, eggs, sugar, and cream.

Lefse - Lefse is a traditional soft Norwegian flatbread made with leftover potatoes, flour, butter, and milk or cream.

Rømmegrøt - Rømmegrøt is a Norwegian porridge made with sour cream, whole milk, wheat flour, butter, and salt.
