Cymbopogon martinii

Cymbopogon martinii also known as Palmarosa is a species of grass from the lemongrass genus which is native to India and Indochina but is widely cultivated in many places for its aromatic oil.

Etymology

The genus name Cymbopogon derives from the Greek words kymbe meaning "boat" and pogon meaning "beard" referring to the large flower spike arrangement. The species name martinii is in honor of the Italian botanist Francisco Manuel Martin. The common name "Palmarosa" is due to the sweet floral aroma of the oil which is reminiscent of roses.

Description
