Ovarian tumor
Ovarian Tumors
An Ovarian Tumor is a growth or neoplasm that originates from the ovary. These tumors can be either benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (Ovarian Cancer). Unlike Ovarian Cysts, which are primarily fluid-filled, ovarian tumors are mainly composed of solid tissue.
Types of Ovarian Tumors[edit]
Ovarian tumors are classified into three main types based on the cells from which they originate:
- Epithelial Tumors: These are the most common type of ovarian tumors, originating from the cells on the surface of the ovary.
- Germ Cell Tumors: These tumors originate from the cells that produce the eggs.
- Stromal Tumors: These tumors originate from the cells that produce female hormones.
Symptoms[edit]
The symptoms of ovarian tumors can often be vague and similar to other conditions. They may include:
- Abdominal bloating or swelling
- Quickly feeling full when eating
- Weight loss
- Discomfort in the pelvic area
- Changes in bowel habits, such as constipation
- A frequent need to urinate
Diagnosis[edit]
Diagnosis of ovarian tumors typically involves a combination of a physical examination, ultrasound, and blood tests. In some cases, a biopsy may be needed to confirm the diagnosis.
Treatment[edit]
Treatment for ovarian tumors depends on the type and stage of the tumor, and may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or a combination of these treatments.
