Dydrogesterone

Dydrogesterone is a synthetic, orally active progestogen drug that is used primarily for the treatment of disorders linked to progesterone deficiency. Progesterone is a natural hormone that plays a vital role in the menstrual cycle and in maintaining the early stages of pregnancy.

Mechanism of Action

Upon administration, dydrogesterone exhibits high affinity for progesterone receptors. By binding to these receptors, it helps regulate the growth and normal shedding of the uterine lining during the menstrual cycle. Interestingly, dydrogesterone does not appear to bind to other types of hormone receptors, such as androgenic, estrogenic, glucocorticoid, or mineralocorticoid receptors. • Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT): Dydrogesterone is often used in conjunction with estrogen in post-menopausal women to prevent the overgrowth of the uterine lining that can be caused by estrogen alone.
