Paul (bakery)
Paul (bakery)
Paul is a French bakery chain, established in 1889 in the city of Croix, Nord, in Northern France, by Charlemagne Mayot. It specializes in serving French products including breads, crêpes, sandwiches, macarons, soups, cakes, pastries, coffee, wine, and beer.
History[edit]
The Mayot family, who were agricultural workers, began to bake bread around 1889. The venture proved successful and the business expanded rapidly. The family built a bakery in Croix, Nord, near Lille, where the company's headquarters is still located.
In 1958, Francis Holder took over his family's bakery, and in 1963, he began to expand the business into a chain of bakeries. The first shop under the name "Paul" opened in 1963 on rue de Bapaume in Lille.
Products[edit]
Paul specializes in a variety of French baked goods. The bakery offers a range of breads, including baguettes, croissants, and pain au chocolat. In addition to bread, Paul also serves a variety of pastries, such as macarons, éclairs, and tarts. The bakery also offers a selection of sandwiches, soups, and salads.
Expansion[edit]
Paul has expanded internationally, with more than 670 bakeries in 33 countries. The first Paul bakery outside France was opened in Barcelona, Spain, in 1985. The company has since expanded to locations in the United Kingdom, the United States, the Middle East, and Asia.
