Overview

SECAmb was formed on 1 July 2006, following the merger of several smaller ambulance trusts as part of a national strategy to streamline ambulance services across the UK. The trust operates a variety of services, including Emergency Ambulance Services, Patient Transport Services (PTS), and the NHS 111 non-emergency number in certain areas.

Operations

The trust's operations are divided into several key areas, including emergency operations centers (EOCs), where calls are received and triaged; ambulance stations, from where ambulances are dispatched; and PTS, which provides pre-arranged transportation for patients needing to get to and from healthcare services.

Emergency Operations Centers

SECAmb has several EOCs across its coverage area. These centers use advanced technology and triage systems to assess the urgency of calls and dispatch the appropriate resources. The staff in these centers are trained to provide life-saving instructions over the phone, guiding callers through emergency procedures such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) until paramedics arrive.

Ambulance Stations

The trust operates numerous ambulance stations throughout the South East. These stations house the ambulances, rapid response vehicles (RRVs), and the healthcare professionals who staff them. SECAmb's fleet is equipped with the latest medical equipment, ensuring that patients receive high-quality care en route to the hospital.

Patient Transport Services

SECAmb's PTS is an essential service for patients who require non-emergency transportation. This service is designed for patients who need assistance getting to and from healthcare appointments, including those who are elderly, have mobility issues, or require specialist medical equipment during transport.
