Career[edit]

In 1980, he founded the NGO Médecins aux pieds nus (Barefoot Doctors), an organization that aims to provide medical care to underserved populations. The organization is based on the principles of Chinese medicine, where doctors would travel to rural areas to provide care.
In 1997, Willem founded the Biodecoding Institute. The institute focuses on the study and practice of biodecoding, a form of alternative medicine that aims to understand and treat the emotional and psychological roots of physical illness.

Willem is married and has two children. He continues to work and teach in the field of biodecoding and alternative medicine.
