Primary Nutritional Groups are the main categories of nutrients that are essential for human health and well-being. These groups include Carbohydrates, Proteins, Fats, Vitamins, Minerals, and Water. Each of these groups plays a unique role in maintaining various bodily functions and is required in different amounts.

Carbohydrates[edit]

Carbohydrates are the body's main source of energy. They are broken down into glucose, which is used by the body's cells for energy. There are two main types of carbohydrates: simple and complex. Simple carbohydrates, or sugars, provide quick energy, while complex carbohydrates provide sustained energy.

Proteins[edit]

Proteins are essential for growth and repair in the body. They are made up of amino acids, which are the building blocks of the body. There are 20 amino acids, 9 of which are essential and must be obtained from the diet.

Fats[edit]

Fats are a concentrated source of energy and are essential for many bodily functions, including nutrient absorption and hormone production. There are several types of fats, including saturated, unsaturated, and trans fats.

Vitamins[edit]

Vitamins are organic compounds that are necessary for normal growth and development. They are required in small amounts and are divided into two groups: fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins.

Minerals[edit]

Minerals are inorganic substances that are required for a variety of bodily functions, including bone formation, nerve function, and the production of red blood cells. They are divided into two groups: macrominerals and trace minerals.

Water[edit]

Water is essential for life and is involved in nearly every bodily function. It helps regulate body temperature, transports nutrients and oxygen to cells, and removes waste products from the body.
