Bramble (cocktail)
A cocktail made with gin, lemon juice, sugar syrup, and crème de mûre

The Bramble is a popular cocktail that originated in the 1980s. It is known for its refreshing taste and distinctive appearance, featuring a combination of gin, lemon juice, sugar syrup, and crème de mûre, a blackberry liqueur. The Bramble is often served over crushed ice and garnished with fresh blackberries and a slice of lemon.
History[edit]
The Bramble was created by Dick Bradsell, a renowned bartender, in 1984 at Fred's Club in Soho, London. Bradsell was inspired by the flavors of his childhood on the Isle of Wight, where he picked blackberries. The cocktail quickly gained popularity and became a staple in bars around the world.
Ingredients[edit]
- 50 ml gin
- 25 ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 12.5 ml sugar syrup
- 12.5 ml crème de mûre
- Crushed ice
- Fresh blackberries and a slice of lemon for garnish
Preparation[edit]
1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add the gin, lemon juice, and sugar syrup. 2. Shake well until the mixture is chilled. 3. Strain the mixture into a glass filled with crushed ice. 4. Drizzle the crème de mûre over the top of the drink, allowing it to "bleed" through the ice. 5. Garnish with fresh blackberries and a slice of lemon.
Variations[edit]
The Bramble can be adapted with different ingredients to suit personal tastes. Some variations include using different types of gin, such as sloe gin, or substituting the crème de mûre with other berry liqueurs like crème de cassis.
