Activated Complex

The activated complex is a transient structure that forms during the conversion of reactants into products in a chemical reaction. It represents the highest energy state of the system and is a critical concept in the study of chemical kinetics and reaction mechanisms.

Formation

During a chemical reaction, reactants must overcome an energy barrier to transform into products. This energy barrier is known as the activation energy. As reactants absorb energy, they reach a point where they form the activated complex, also known as the transition state.
