History

The brand was introduced in 1975 and was originally known as "Cuervo 1800 Tequila." The name "1800" refers to the year in which tequila was first aged in oak casks. The brand is known for its distinctive trapezoidal bottle, which is reminiscent of the Mayan pyramids found in Mexico.

Production

1800 Tequila is made from 100% blue agave, which is harvested from the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. The agave plants are typically grown for 8 to 12 years before they are harvested. The piñas, or hearts of the agave, are cooked in stone ovens and then crushed to extract the juice. The juice is then fermented and distilled twice in copper pot stills.

1800 Tequila offers several varieties, including:

• 1800 Silver: A clear, unaged tequila that is bottled immediately after distillation.
• 1800 Reposado: A tequila that is aged in oak barrels for at least six months.
• 1800 Añejo: A tequila that is aged in oak barrels for at least one year.
• 1800 Cristalino: An añejo tequila that is filtered to remove the color, resulting in a clear spirit.
