Bromobenzyl cyanide
Bromobenzyl cyanide (BBC), also known as CA in military contexts, is a cyanide-based tear gas that was used in World War I for chemical warfare. It is a colorless liquid at room temperature and is considered one of the most potent lacrimators. Bromobenzyl cyanide works by irritating the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose, mouth, and lungs, leading to tearing, sneezing, coughing, and in severe cases, temporary blindness. History
