Trident (gum)[edit]

Trident Gum logo

Trident is a brand of sugar-free chewing gum. It was introduced by the American Chicle Company in 1960 and is currently owned by Mondelez International. Trident was the first national brand of sugar-free gum in the United States and has been marketed as a product that helps fight cavities.

History[edit]

Trident was originally launched in 1960 by the American Chicle Company, which was later acquired by Warner-Lambert in 1962. The gum was initially marketed as a "dental gum" that could help reduce cavities. In 1978, Warner-Lambert introduced a new formula that replaced sugar with xylitol, a sugar alcohol that has been shown to reduce the risk of cavities.

In 2000, Warner-Lambert merged with Pfizer, and in 2003, the Trident brand was sold to Cadbury Schweppes. In 2010, Cadbury was acquired by Kraft Foods, which later became Mondelez International in 2012.

Varieties[edit]

Trident offers a wide range of flavors and varieties, including:

  • Trident Original
  • Trident White
  • Trident Layers
  • Trident Vibes
Trident Vibes Sour Patch Kids flavor

Trident Vibes is a newer line that includes unique flavors such as Sour Patch Kids, which combines the taste of the popular candy with the gum's signature texture.

Marketing[edit]

Trident has been marketed with the slogan "Four out of five dentists recommend sugarless gum for their patients who chew gum." This slogan has been a key part of Trident's advertising strategy, emphasizing the dental benefits of chewing sugar-free gum.

Health Benefits[edit]

Chewing Trident gum has been associated with several oral health benefits. The use of xylitol in Trident gum helps to neutralize plaque acids, reduce cavity-causing bacteria, and promote saliva production, which can aid in the remineralization of tooth enamel.
