Chemical structure of Trenbolone Enanthate

Trenbolone enanthate is a synthetic and injectable anabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS) of the nandrolone group, which is used in veterinary medicine, particularly to increase the profitability of livestock by promoting muscle growth in cattle. It is not approved for use in humans.

Chemical Properties

Trenbolone enanthate is a derivative of nandrolone, differing by the introduction of two additional double bonds in the steroid structure. The enanthate ester attached to the 17-beta hydroxyl group prolongs the activity of the drug by slowing the release of the steroid from the injection site.

Mechanism of Action

Trenbolone enanthate binds to the androgen receptor with high affinity, which leads to increased protein synthesis and nitrogen retention in muscle tissues. This results in enhanced muscle growth and strength. It also has a strong binding affinity for the glucocorticoid receptor, which may contribute to its anti-catabolic effects.

Veterinary Use

In veterinary medicine, trenbolone enanthate is used to increase the weight gain and feed efficiency of cattle. It is typically administered as an implant under the skin of the ear. The use of trenbolone in livestock is regulated in many countries to ensure that residues do not remain in meat products.

Side Effects

The use of trenbolone enanthate can lead to several side effects, including increased aggression, acne, hair loss, and potential cardiovascular issues. In animals, it can cause masculinization effects in females and may affect fertility.

Legal Status

Trenbolone enanthate is classified as a controlled substance in many countries due to its potential for abuse and health risks. It is banned for use in competitive sports by most major sporting bodies.

Related Compounds

Trenbolone enanthate is related to other trenbolone esters such as trenbolone acetate and trenbolone hexahydrobenzylcarbonate, which have similar effects but differ in their duration of action.
