CALP Network

The CALP Network is a global partnership of humanitarian organizations, practitioners, and researchers dedicated to improving the quality and effectiveness of cash and voucher assistance (CVA) in humanitarian settings. The network focuses on building capacity, sharing knowledge, and advocating for the use of cash-based interventions to support people affected by crises.

History

The CALP Network was established in 2005 as the Cash Learning Partnership, a project initiated by several humanitarian organizations to address the growing interest and need for cash-based assistance in humanitarian aid. Over the years, it has evolved into a network that includes a wide range of stakeholders, including non-governmental organizations (NGOs), United Nations agencies, donors, and private sector partners.

Objectives

The primary objectives of the CALP Network are:

  • To promote the use of cash and voucher assistance as a tool for humanitarian response.
  • To improve the quality and effectiveness of CVA through research, capacity building, and knowledge sharing.
  • To advocate for policies and practices that support the use of CVA in humanitarian contexts.

Activities

The CALP Network engages in a variety of activities to achieve its objectives, including:

  • Training and Capacity Building: Offering training programs and resources to enhance the skills and knowledge of humanitarian practitioners in implementing CVA.
  • Research and Evidence: Conducting and disseminating research to build the evidence base for the effectiveness and impact of cash-based interventions.
  • Advocacy and Policy Influence: Engaging with policymakers and stakeholders to promote the adoption of CVA-friendly policies and practices.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Facilitating the exchange of information and experiences among network members through workshops, webinars, and online platforms.

Impact

The CALP Network has played a significant role in increasing the acceptance and use of cash and voucher assistance in humanitarian responses worldwide. By providing evidence, tools, and guidance, the network has helped organizations design and implement more effective and efficient CVA programs.
