Li-Meng Yan is a Chinese virologist and whistleblower who gained international attention in 2020 for her controversial claims regarding the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic. She has asserted that the virus was artificially created in a laboratory in Wuhan, China, and that the Chinese government covered up the outbreak.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Li-Meng Yan was born in China. She pursued her education in medicine and virology, eventually earning a medical degree and a Ph.D. in virology. She worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), where she specialized in virology and immunology.

Career[edit]

At HKU, Yan worked under the guidance of prominent virologists and contributed to research on infectious diseases. Her work primarily focused on the study of emerging viruses and their transmission mechanisms.

Whistleblowing and Controversy[edit]

In early 2020, Yan fled to the United States and began to publicly claim that the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19, was engineered in a laboratory in Wuhan. She alleged that the Chinese government and the World Health Organization (WHO) were aware of the virus's origins but chose to conceal the information.

Yan's claims have been met with significant skepticism and criticism from the scientific community. Many experts have pointed out that there is no credible evidence to support her assertions, and her theories have been widely discredited by virologists and epidemiologists.

Media Appearances[edit]

Li-Meng Yan has appeared on various media platforms, including television interviews and social media, to share her views on the origins of COVID-19. Her statements have sparked debates and discussions about the transparency and accountability of governments and international organizations in handling the pandemic.
