Mr. Olympia is an annual international bodybuilding competition that is held by the International Federation of Bodybuilding & Fitness (IFBB). The contest was created by Joe Weider to enable the Mr. Universe winners to continue competing and to earn money. The first Mr. Olympia was held on September 18, 1965, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York City.

History[edit]

The Mr. Olympia competition was established to provide a platform for the best bodybuilders in the world to compete against each other. The inaugural event in 1965 was won by Larry Scott, who also won the title in 1966. Over the years, the competition has grown in prestige and is now considered the most important event in professional bodybuilding.

Notable Winners[edit]

Some of the most notable winners of the Mr. Olympia title include:

  • Arnold Schwarzenegger - A seven-time winner who helped popularize bodybuilding worldwide.
  • Lee Haney - Holds the record for the most consecutive wins with eight titles from 1984 to 1991.
  • Ronnie Coleman - Tied with Lee Haney for the most overall wins, also with eight titles from 1998 to 2005.
  • Dorian Yates - A six-time winner known for his massive size and conditioning.
  • Phil Heath - A seven-time winner from 2011 to 2017.
