macOS Ventura is the nineteenth major release of macOS, Apple Inc.'s desktop operating system for Macintosh computers. It was announced at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 6, 2022, and was released to the public on October 24, 2022. The operating system is named after Ventura, California, continuing Apple's tradition of naming macOS versions after locations in California.

Features[edit]

macOS Ventura introduces several new features and improvements over its predecessor, macOS Monterey. Some of the key features include:

  • Stage Manager: A new window management feature that helps users organize their workspace by grouping windows and applications.
  • Continuity Camera: Allows users to use their iPhone as a webcam for their Mac.
  • Passkeys: A new authentication method that replaces passwords with cryptographic keys, enhancing security.
  • Freeform: A new app designed for collaborative brainstorming and planning.
  • Metal 3: The latest version of Apple's graphics API, which includes new features for game developers.
  • System Settings: A redesigned settings app that replaces the traditional System Preferences, offering a more streamlined and modern interface.

Compatibility[edit]

macOS Ventura is compatible with the following Mac models:

Development[edit]

The development of macOS Ventura followed Apple's annual release cycle for macOS updates. The first developer beta was released on June 6, 2022, shortly after the WWDC keynote. Public beta testing began in July 2022, allowing a broader audience to test and provide feedback on the new features and improvements.

Reception[edit]

macOS Ventura received generally positive reviews from users and critics. The new features, particularly Stage Manager and Continuity Camera, were praised for their innovation and utility. However, some users reported issues with compatibility and performance on older Mac models.
