The DC Animated Universe (DCAU) is a term used to refer to a series of animated television series and related spin-offs produced by Warner Bros. Animation and based on characters that appear in American comic books published by DC Comics. The DCAU is also sometimes referred to as the Timmverse or the Diniverse after its two main architects, Bruce Timm and Paul Dini.
History
The DCAU began with the debut of Batman: The Animated Series in 1992. The series was praised for its darker tone, complex characters, and mature themes, which set it apart from previous animated superhero shows. Following the success of Batman: The Animated Series, several other series were produced, including Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited.
