Leverett House is one of the twelve undergraduate residential houses at Harvard University. It is named after John Leverett the Younger, who served as President of Harvard University from 1708 to 1724. Leverett House was established in 1931 as part of Harvard's House system, which was designed to provide a more intimate and supportive community for students.

History

Leverett House was originally composed of two buildings: McKinlock Hall and the Leverett Towers. McKinlock Hall, named after George A. McKinlock Jr., was constructed in 1925 and became part of Leverett House in 1931. The Leverett Towers, two high-rise buildings, were added in the 1960s to accommodate the growing number of students.

Architecture

The architecture of Leverett House is a blend of traditional and modern styles. McKinlock Hall features Georgian-style architecture, while the Leverett Towers are examples of mid-20th-century modernist design. The combination of these styles reflects the evolution of Harvard's campus over the years.

House Life

Leverett House is known for its strong sense of community and vibrant house life. The house hosts a variety of social, cultural, and academic events throughout the year. These include formal dances, study breaks, and guest speaker events. Leverett House also has a number of student organizations and committees that contribute to the house's dynamic atmosphere.

Facilities

Leverett House offers a range of facilities for its residents. These include a dining hall, common rooms, a library, music practice rooms, and athletic facilities. The house also has its own gym and squash courts, providing students with ample opportunities for physical activity.
