The University of South Dakota (USD) is a public university located in Vermillion, South Dakota. It is the state's oldest university, established in 1862, and serves as the flagship institution of the South Dakota Board of Regents. The University of South Dakota was established by the Dakota Territory legislature in 1862, making it the oldest university in the state. The first classes were held in 1882. Over the years, USD has grown significantly, expanding its academic offerings and facilities.
