Professional American football team based in Denver, Colorado



The Denver Broncos are a professional American football team based in Denver, Colorado. The Broncos compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league's American Football Conference (AFC) West division. The team is headquartered in the UCHealth Training Center in Englewood, Colorado.

History

The Denver Broncos were founded on August 14, 1959, when minor league baseball owner Bob Howsam was awarded a charter franchise in the American Football League (AFL). The Broncos began play in 1960 and joined the NFL as part of the AFL–NFL merger in 1970. The team has had several periods of success, most notably during the late 1990s under head coach Mike Shanahan, when they won two consecutive Super Bowl titles in Super Bowl XXXII and Super Bowl XXXIII.

Championships

The Broncos have won three Super Bowl championships: Super Bowl XXXII, Super Bowl XXXIII, and Super Bowl 50. They have also won eight AFC Championships and fifteen division titles.

Stadium

The Broncos' home games are played at Empower Field at Mile High, which opened in 2001. The stadium replaced the original Mile High Stadium, which had been the team's home since its inception.

  • John Elway - Hall of Fame quarterback who led the team to two Super Bowl victories.
  • Terrell Davis - Hall of Fame running back and MVP of Super Bowl XXXII.
