DePaul University is a private university located in Chicago, Illinois. Founded in 1898 by the Vincentians, it is the largest Catholic university in the United States by enrollment. The university is named after Saint Vincent de Paul, the 17th-century French priest who dedicated his life to serving the poor.
History
DePaul University was established by the Congregation of the Mission (Vincentians) in 1898. The university was originally named St. Vincent's College and was located in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. In 1907, the institution was renamed DePaul University.
Campuses
DePaul University has two main campuses in Chicago:
- Lincoln Park Campus: Located in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, this campus houses the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, the College of Science and Health, the School of Music, and the Theatre School.
- Loop Campus: Situated in the Loop area of downtown Chicago, this campus is home to the Driehaus College of Business, the College of Computing and Digital Media, the College of Communication, and the College of Law.
