Wyoming County, Pennsylvania



Wyoming County is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, the population was 26,069. The county seat is Tunkhannock. The county was created on April 4, 1842, from part of Luzerne County and named for the Wyoming Valley, which is derived from the Munsee word xwé:wamənk, meaning "at the big river flat."
Geography[edit]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 405 square miles (1,050 km²), of which 397 square miles (1,030 km²) is land and 7.7 square miles (20 km²) (1.9%) is water. The county is largely rural and is known for its scenic landscapes, including the Endless Mountains.

Demographics[edit]
As of the census of 2020, there were 26,069 people, 10,237 households, and 7,123 families residing in the county. The population density was 65 people per square mile (25/km²). There were 12,713 housing units at an average density of 32 per square mile (12/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 96.5% White, 1.1% Black or African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.6% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. 1.8% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Government and politics[edit]
Wyoming County is governed by a board of three county commissioners. The county is part of Pennsylvania's 12th congressional district, represented by Fred Keller. In the Pennsylvania General Assembly, it is part of the 110th and 117th legislative districts.
