Britney Jean Spears (born December 2, 1981) is an American singer, dancer, and actress. She is credited with influencing the revival of teen pop during the late 1990s and early 2000s, for which she is referred to as the "Princess of Pop". Spears is known for her distinctive voice, energetic stage presence, and provocative performances.

Early Life

Britney Spears was born in McComb, Mississippi, and raised in Kentwood, Louisiana. She showed an interest in performing arts from a young age, participating in local dance revues and church choirs. At age eight, she auditioned for the Mickey Mouse Club, but was deemed too young to join the cast. However, she was later cast in the show at age eleven, alongside future stars such as Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera.

Career

1997–2000: ...Baby One More Time and Oops!... I Did It Again

In 1997, Spears signed with Jive Records and released her debut album, ...Baby One More Time, in 1999. The album's title track became a global hit, topping the charts in at least 22 countries. Her follow-up album, Oops!... I Did It Again (2000), was also a commercial success, breaking the record for the highest debut-week album sales by a female artist.

2001–2005: Britney, In the Zone, and Personal Struggles

Spears's third studio album, Britney (2001), marked a departure from her teen pop sound, incorporating more mature themes and a more urban sound. Her fourth album, In the Zone (2003), featured the Grammy Award-winning single "Toxic". During this period, Spears faced significant media scrutiny and personal challenges, including a high-profile marriage and subsequent annulment with childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander, and a marriage to dancer Kevin Federline, with whom she has two children.

2006–2012: Personal and Professional Turmoil

Spears's personal life continued to attract media attention, particularly her struggles with mental health and substance abuse. In 2007, she released her fifth studio album, Blackout, which received critical acclaim despite her personal issues. Her subsequent albums, Circus (2008) and Femme Fatale (2011), were also commercially successful.

2013–Present: Las Vegas Residency and Conservatorship

In 2013, Spears began a four-year residency show, Britney: Piece of Me, at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The show was a commercial success and was extended due to popular demand. In recent years, Spears has been involved in a legal battle over her conservatorship, which has been in place since 2008.
