Baltimore Era (1953–1983)
The Colts were established in 1953 in Baltimore, Maryland. The team quickly became one of the NFL's most successful franchises, winning back-to-back NFL Championships in 1958 and 1959 under the leadership of head coach Weeb Ewbank and quarterback Johnny Unitas. The 1958 NFL Championship Game, often referred to as "The Greatest Game Ever Played," was a pivotal moment in NFL history, helping to popularize the sport nationwide.
Move to Indianapolis (1984–present)
In 1984, the Colts relocated to Indianapolis, where they have since become a staple of the city's sports culture. The team experienced a resurgence in the late 1990s and 2000s under the leadership of quarterback Peyton Manning and head coach Tony Dungy. This era culminated in a victory in Super Bowl XLI in 2006, where the Colts defeated the Chicago Bears.
Stadium
The Colts currently play their home games at Lucas Oil Stadium, which opened in 2008. The stadium is known for its retractable roof and state-of-the-art facilities. Prior to Lucas Oil Stadium, the team played at the Hoosier Dome, later known as the RCA Dome, from 1984 to 2007.
