Columbia County, Pennsylvania

Columbia County, Pennsylvania is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, the population was 64,727. The county seat is Bloomsburg, which is notable for being the only incorporated town in Pennsylvania.

History[edit]

Columbia County was created on March 22, 1813, from parts of Northumberland and Luzerne counties. It was named after Christopher Columbus. The county has a rich history, including its role in the American Civil War and its development during the Industrial Revolution.

Geography[edit]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 490 square miles (1,269 km²), of which 483 square miles (1,251 km²) is land and 7.1 square miles (18 km²) (1.4%) is water. The county is part of the Susquehanna Valley region.
