Greta Tintin Eleonora Ernman Thunberg (born 3 January 2003) is a Swedish environmental activist who is internationally known for her efforts to combat climate change. She first gained recognition for her school strike for climate in August 2018, which inspired students across the globe to participate in similar protests.

Early Life

Greta Thunberg was born in Stockholm, Sweden, to opera singer Malena Ernman and actor Svante Thunberg. She is the granddaughter of actor and director Olof Thunberg. Greta was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, obsessive–compulsive disorder, and selective mutism, which she has described as her "superpower" in her activism.

Activism

In August 2018, at the age of 15, Thunberg began spending her school days outside the Swedish Parliament to call for stronger action on global warming by holding up a sign reading "Skolstrejk för klimatet" (School strike for climate).
