Sauza Tequila is a brand of tequila produced in Mexico. It is one of the oldest and most well-known tequila brands in the world. The brand was founded in 1873 by Don Cenobio Sauza in the town of Tequila, Jalisco, which is located in the state of Jalisco.

History[edit]

The history of Sauza Tequila dates back to 1873 when Don Cenobio Sauza established the La Perseverancia distillery in Tequila, Jalisco. Don Cenobio Sauza is credited with being the first to export tequila to the United States, and he played a significant role in popularizing the spirit outside of Mexico. The Sauza family continued to manage the brand for several generations, contributing to its growth and reputation.

Production[edit]

Sauza Tequila is made from the blue agave plant, which is native to the region around Tequila, Jalisco. The production process involves harvesting the agave plants, cooking the piñas (the heart of the agave), extracting the juice, fermenting it, and then distilling it. Sauza Tequila is known for its smooth and crisp flavor, which is achieved through a meticulous production process.

Varieties[edit]

Sauza Tequila offers a range of products, including:

  • Sauza Silver: A clear, unaged tequila with a fresh agave flavor.
  • Sauza Gold: A young, unaged tequila with a hint of caramel.
  • Sauza Conmemorativo: An aged tequila with a rich, complex flavor.
  • Sauza Hornitos: A premium line of tequila that includes Plata, Reposado, and Añejo varieties.

Cocktails[edit]

Sauza Tequila is a popular choice for a variety of cocktails, including:

Ownership[edit]

In 1988, the Sauza brand was acquired by the Mexican beverage company Grupo Domecq. Later, in 2005, it became part of the Beam Suntory portfolio, a subsidiary of Suntory Holdings of Japan.
