Hill's Pet Nutrition is a company that produces pet food for dogs and cats. It is a subsidiary of Colgate-Palmolive and is headquartered in Topeka, Kansas. The company is known for its Science Diet and Prescription Diet brands.

History[edit]

Hill's Pet Nutrition was founded in 1907 by Dr. Mark L. Morris Sr., a veterinarian who developed a specialized diet for a guide dog named Buddy, who was suffering from kidney disease. This diet eventually became the foundation for the company's Prescription Diet line.

In 1948, Dr. Morris partnered with Burton Hill of the Hill Packing Company in Topeka, Kansas, to produce and package the special diet. This collaboration led to the establishment of Hill's Pet Nutrition.

Products[edit]

Hill's Pet Nutrition offers a variety of pet food products under different brands:

  • Science Diet: A line of pet foods designed for the general health and wellness of pets. It includes formulas for different life stages, sizes, and specific health needs.
  • Prescription Diet: A line of therapeutic pet foods formulated to help manage specific health conditions in pets, such as kidney disease, urinary tract issues, and weight management.

Research and Development[edit]

Hill's Pet Nutrition invests heavily in research and development to create scientifically formulated pet foods. The company operates the Hill's Pet Nutrition Center in Topeka, Kansas, where a team of veterinarians, nutritionists, and food scientists work to develop and test new products.

Corporate Social Responsibility[edit]

Hill's Pet Nutrition is involved in various corporate social responsibility initiatives, including:

  • Hill's Food, Shelter & Love Program: This program provides free pet food to animal shelters across the United States to help feed pets awaiting adoption.
  • Disaster Relief: Hill's Pet Nutrition donates pet food and provides support during natural disasters to help pets in need.
